Chris Howells, Psy.D.

OWNER/CEO

I am a gender and culturally affirming Licensed Clinical Psychologist, whose focus is on working with adults to overcome internal barriers that prevent them from enjoying life, while recognizing their strengths and the uniqueness of the approach that is necessary for change. My style is a balance of warmth and directness designed to rapidly reach treatment goals without the care itself being overwhelming. In addition, I have a strong background in completing psychological evaluations (non-forensic/custody) for the purpose of diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations.

I have extensive training in evidence-based psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy treatments designed to provide lasting relief from a wide variety of life and emotional struggles, and clinical conditions. Most notably, I have a particular emphasis on assisting those who have experienced trauma, those who have not benefitted fully from previous mental health treatment, and those whose symptoms have made the healing process challenging for them.

I received a commission into the United States Air Force and I completed the APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Residency Program at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. Subsequently, I worked as an active duty psychologist, providing a variety of psychological services to military members and spouses, and serving in several different leadership roles. I left active duty and returned to San Antonio to work as a civilian psychologist with the Army in their Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Outpatient Behavioral Health programs. I currently am licensed in Texas (Texas Psychologist License # 39086) and Colorado (Colorado Psychologist License #PSY.0003998), and I am a participating member of PsyPact (Mobility # 11981). I also have been recognized with the Health Service Psychologist (HSP) designation from the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
